New Yorkers for Growth to 1199 SEIU: 'Get Real'

Calls Banker Bonus Tax Proposal 'Boneheaded, Suicidal for New York'

New York, NY-Feb. 18...New Yorkers for Growth, the political action committee dedicated to bringing responsible fiscal policies back to New York State government,  today ridiculed an advertising campaign from health care workers union 1199 SEIU calling for a 50% tax on bonuses paid to Wall Street executives.  An online ad from the campaign can be seen here.

Labeling the proposal the "Boneheaded Bonus Bill", New Yorkers for Growth spokesman, Larchmont Mayor Liz Feld, said the proposal would be "suicidal for New York taxpayers."

Governor David Paterson (D) and New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg (I) have each made it clear in recent weeks that additional taxes on Wall Street bonuses and salaries would be counterproductive for New York State.

"This proposal is ridiculously shortsighted," Mayor Feld said.  "New York is in the midst of the greatest financial crisis in its history, and this campaign seeks to erode our revenue base further by taxing more financial sector jobs out of this state. The special interest lobby in New York has to get real; new taxes will only make our problems worse."
