Castelli And Murray Prevail In Westchester and Suffolk Assembly Races
New York Voters Demanding Fiscal Responsibility, Group Says
New York--Feb. 10...New Yorkers for Growth, the political action committee dedicated to bringing responsible fiscal policies back to New York State government, today announced that two out of the three candidates it endorsed in yesterday's special elections for State Assembly prevailed in their races. New Yorkers for Growth, which has now backed eight winning fiscally-conservative candidates in the past three years, says this string of victories demonstrates that New York voters have had it with runaway spending and taxing in Albany and want a fundamental restructuring of state fiscal policy.
New Yorkers for Growth candidates Bob Castelli (R) and Dean Murray (R) won races for New York State Assembly last night in Westchester's 89th district and Suffolk County's 3rd Assembly District, respectively. The 89th Assembly District includes Harrison, North Castle, New Castle, Mount Kisco, Bedford, Pound Ridge, Lewisboro, and portions of White Plains; the 3rd Assembly District includes Bellport, Blue Point, Brookhaven Hamlet, Coram, Farmingville, Gordon Heights, Holtsville, Medford, Middle Island, Patchogue, and parts of, Mastic, Selden, Shirley and Yaphank. New Yorkers for Growth also endorsed fiscal conservative Robert Friedrich (D), who ran a strong race yesterday in the 24th State Assembly District in Queens.
Other New Yorkers for Growth candidates who have won office in the past three years are: Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino; State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhoffer; Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb; Assemblyman George Amedore; Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick, and Assemblyman Tony Jordan.
"New York State is on the verge of fiscal insolvency for one reason: Our elected officials can't stop spending," said New Yorkers for Growth spokesman Liz Feld, the two-term mayor of Larchmont, NY. "New York voters understand that, and they are shutting off the spigot at the polling place. Last night's victories, on top of stunning county executive wins by fiscal conservatives in Westchester and Suffolk counties last November, clearly show that the tide has turned in this state toward fiscal responsibility."
