New Yorkers for Growth Again Calls on Attorney General Cuomo to Investigate Working Families Party Practices

"Mr. Cuomo Must Set Aside The WFP's Past Support Of His Candidacy"

New York, NY-March 3...New Yorkers for Growth, the leading fiscal reform group, today - for the third time in seven months-called on New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (D-WFP) to do his job by investigating the highly questionable inner workings of New York's Working Families Party (WFP).

The Charities Bureau of the Attorney General's office is charged with supervision of non-profit organizations throughout the state.

New Yorkers for Growth urged Attorney General Cuomo to investigate the WFP in August 2009 and November 2009 after reviewing an investigative series on WFP practices by Manhattan Media's City Hall newspaper.  City Hall reported this summer that, among other things, the WFP "...shared resources and staff, and quiet money transfers [with] a secretive private company called Data and Field Services (DFS) and at least six current Council campaigns"

City Hall also reported that the WFP may be illegally using non-profit corporations to circumvent political donation limits in order to give Left-wing candidates in New York State an inappropriate advantage in Democratic primaries.

The U.S. Attorney has since opened an investigation into the WFP, but Attorney General Cuomo has remained silent.

"It is the job of the New York State Attorney General to investigate allegations like those made against the Working Families Party," said New Yorkers for Growth spokesman, Larchmont Mayor Liz Feld. "Mr. Cuomo must set aside the WFP's  past  support of his candidacy to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.  If the Working Families Party is gaming the political system in New York State, the Attorney General must take action. "
